Go Go Boots

Does your back hurt from leaning down to work on a standard folding table? Figure out how high you want the table. This one comes to a little lower than my elbows.

  1. Figure what the difference is between how high your table is and how high you want it to be.
  2. Measure from the bend in your table’s leg to the floor.
  3. Add these two numbers together. This is how long you will need to cut the PVC pipe.
  4. Measure the diameter of the leg. The PVC pipe that you get must fit snuggly over the leg.
  5. Multiply that length by 4(legs) plus some fudge factor and get your pipe. Look and ask around, friends and family may have leftover pieces that you can use. If you offer to clean an attic, basement or garage, you may find lots of elements, such as tools or materials.

MEASURE TWICE CUT ONCE!!

You can cut PVC with any saw that will cut wood. We have a chop saw set up in the woodshop. Clamp the pipe as well as you can. Safety first is better in the long run, so use goggles and a mask. A run to the ER is way too expensive for this DIY fix. We cut the GoGo boots a little long , then tried them on the table. It was a little tricky getting all four to stay on while we flipped the table upright again. I didn’t like the first height, too tall. It is far better to be too long than too short ( Our PVC stretcher is on the fritz), in this instance. One more chop and they were the right height. Be sure the legs are all the same length. The floor is slippery and uneven (you will be too when you are 90 years old!) Small pads of No-Slip Shelf liner are a good gripper under the pipes to hold the table steady. Shelf liner is good for all kinds of jobs in the studio, available at any dollar store or from anyone who recently redid their kitchen shelves. Waxed paper is also invaluable because it does NOT stick to glued or sticky elements.
